Team UV's Story So Far.
STEMfirst was founded by Team UltraViolet from Bournemouth School for Girls, part of BSG Robotics - the official FIRST UK South West Champion Organisation, and the largest all-girl robotics club in the UK.

Team UV consists of fifteen passionate students ranging from ages 12 to 18, who are responsible for designing, building, CAD-ing, coding, promoting, documenting, fixing, and driving our robots! We take part in the FIRST Tech Challenge UK Competition: we're known as "the purple team" for our brightly coloured social media posts, team kits, and robots :)

Our rookie year was 2022, when we competed in the 22/23 POWERPLAY season. After winning our first national award that same year, we became hooked on robotics - since then, we've gone on to win more awards, become UK champions, be featured on the BBC, and represent our country at the FIRST Global international robotics competition!

This season, we hope to continue our success, while proving to young girls through our work with STEMfirst that they too can succeed in science, technology, engineering, and maths.

What is FIRST Tech Challenge?
FIRST® Tech Challenge (FTC) students work together with their mentors to design and build robots to compete in a dynamic and exciting challenge released every September. Teams program classroom-scale robots to follow autonomous commands before student drivers take control in two-on-two matches.
But it's more than just robots - on and off the field, students develop STEM skills, engage in community outreach, practice engineering innovation, and build confidence to help them succeed. We use robots, role models and competitions to make STEM more approachable and inclusive, empowering young people to make informed choices about their future.
24/25 Season - INTO THE DEEP.
Beneath the ocean’s surface lies our planet’s most complex ecosystems, full of life and potential for exploration and learning, where each inhabitant has a role to play in building a thriving environment. During the 2024-2025 FIRST season, FIRST® DIVEâ„ presented by Qualcomm, teams will use their STEM and collaboration skills to explore life beneath the surface of the ocean. Along the way, we’ll uncover the potential in each of us to strengthen our community and innovate for a better world with healthy oceans.
